This week at Prairie Green School we did many activities. We missed Monday because of Labor Day. On Tuesday, we played a fun game called Spanish Memory. For lunch we made pasta sauce out of tomatoes and basil from our garden. On Wednesday, Claire finished her first book of the school year, “Horrible Harry and The Ant Invasion”. Jack is almost done with “Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of NIMB”. BJ is on the third chapter of Shiloh and has summarized each chapter. Jorge and Lucy did sorting and puzzles for anchor activities. They also read the “Super Mouse” books. On Thursday, we went to the Iowa City Public Library. To start off the day, we played on the playground and then walked across the street to go to the Rec center for yoga. After yoga we went back to the library and met Sara, our reading teacher. She had the Tots read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” and Jack and BJ went over their reading interest inventory. Next we had Spanish with Marta Tecedor, our Spanish teacher. We spoke Spanish for forty-five minutes with Marta and her friend Rosario. We learned how to say “I like…” and “I don’t like…” and played charades. After all that, we went to Ace Hardware to pick out paint for our new cubbies. On Friday, we started out the day with our normal routine. Claire read with BJ from Time for Kids about the forest fires in Texas. Jack read the Press-Citizen and reported a local, a national and a choice article. Lucy and Jorge worked on the calendar. We had a long talk about forest fires and how they can start and how fire fighters use water helicopters. For lunch we made salsa and pasta. In the afternoon, we Skyped with Scott Boback, a professor at Dickenson College, about catching live turtles as our classroom pet.
