I introduced the ipad to the littles on the couch. We talked about how to use safari on it including searching using google, making bookmarks and opening multiple pages. I discussed the same things with the bigs but also included how to put a link to a particular web page on the home screen. We thought Time for Kids might be a regular site they would visit and worthwhile on the home page. I also showed them the app ibooks and the free books I downloaded for them to try. Jorge was very excited to see the books and wanted me to read all of them!
Today I visited the classroom and stayed for the morning. I am preparing for a time when I might have to sub for Paula and was genuinely interested in what my kids were doing during the day. I had also set up the school's ipad's and was set to give a lesson on them to the bigs and littles. While Paula did the calendar with the littles, Jack and BJ were instructed to use the newspapers to find interesting articles to share with the class. While Jack (11 1/2) was asked to present a world, national and free choice article, BJ (9) was able to pick a few bits of news to share without restrictions. Following this, the littles worked on their individual books they were creating: Lucy, Lucy, what do you see based on Brown Bear by Bill Martin and Eric Carle.
