The students looked back through their journals last week to see what they learned. Will reflected that wild parsnip is in the carrot family but can burn your skin if you touched it. Maggie learned about the medicinal properties of chickweed, violets, dandelions and more through the Herb Fairy books. The PGS healers made a headache balm and healing salve to begin our natural first aid kit.
Each day at PGS, you can find something unique and fun and looking back at this summer, it rings true once again. While the others picked a exterior elevation of the new school and started planning the classrooms according to teacher input. Other unique projects were developing our Natural History Museum, collecting and identifying insects, butterflies and amphibians at recess, We were lucky to have Dr. Scott Boback visit for a week! He skinned a raccoon and we identified MANY body parts. Then the skin was placed out in the wild with a game camera on it. We were able to observe the various creatures that visited the carcass. We enjoyed a whole school lunch juicing tomatoes! There were so many other cool things that happened this summer: making worm compost bins; writing and recording songs; observing the solar eclipse; and hearing from Grandpa Bo about his artifacts.
